Finding his calling.
Born in Veracruz, Mexico, Jorge studied architectural design and worked in a Chicago engineering firm. He later completed studies in business administration and communication sciences at Northwestern University. Journalism became his next direction.

Jorge’s television career began at WCIU-TV Channel 26 in Chicago. Robert Feder’s 2018 retrospective records ten years there as a reporter and anchor, before his move to WGBO in 1995. Those early years deserve their own place in his story—not simply a footnote to Univision.

After reporting and anchoring at WCIU, Jorge helped launch WGBO’s Noticias Univision Chicago in 1995. His weekday evening broadcasts became a long-running part of Spanish-language television in the city. He signed off from Univision Chicago in August 2018.

During his WCIU years, coverage of the Mexico City earthquake also meant helping connect Chicago families with relatives and supporting relief efforts. His 2012 Academy biography recalls interviews with Harold Washington and César Chávez.
